What is Constitution and Citizenship Day?
Constitution Day and Citizen Day are national observation holidays that take place on September 17. Both celebrations observe the signing of the United States Constitution in 1787, at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Both celebrations were designated as holidays in February 1952. In 2004, Congress passed a bill that mandates all public-funded educational institutions and agencies to provide educational programming on the history of the U.S. Constitution (National Archives, 2024; U.S. Department of Education, 2025).
Middlesex Community College seeks to spark students' interest in their constitutional rights, voting, and other civic engagement issues (MCC, 2023). It is within this interest that the Office of Civic and Student Engagement actively works with the MCC Library to provide resources that support students' education on their constitutional rights.
