Roku: Tactile Remote Instructions

Roku Ultra Remote Tactile Instructions for Blind and Visually Impaired Users

1. Orienting the Remote

  • Hold the remote so the flat buttons face you.

  • The power button is at the very top edge.

  • The volume rocker is on the right side edge.

  • The large round button (OK) near the top middle is your main anchor.

2. Navigating Menus

  • Use the large circular OK button in the center to select.

  • Around it are the direction buttons:

  • Up (above OK)

  • Down (below OK)

  • Left (to the left)

  • Right (to the right)

3. Home and Back

  • Just below the navigation circle are two small buttons:

  • Left button = Back (returns one step).

  • Right button = Home (takes you to the main Roku screen).

  • Tip: If you ever feel lost, press Home to restart from the main screen.

4. Playback Controls

  • Below Back and Home are three round buttons in a row:

  • Left = Rewind

  • Center = Play/Pause

  • Right = Fast Forward

  • These work during shows, movies, or music.

5. Shortcut Buttons

  • Below playback are four smooth rectangular buttons.

  • Each one opens a streaming service (e.g., Netflix, Disney+).

  • Unfortunately, they feel identical—so it may take trial and error or memorization.

6. Volume & Mute

  • On the right side edge of the remote:

  • Top long button = Volume Up

  • Bottom long button = Volume Down

  • Tiny round button just below = Mute

7. Voice Search (Optional)

  • The remote has a microphone button (near the middle), hold it and speak commands like “Play Stranger Things” or “Search for comedy movies.”

Summary Trick:

  • Find the OK button circle first.

  • Above/below/left/right = navigation.

  • Just below = Back and Home.

  • Further below = playback.

  • Right edge = volume and mute.
